# Refusal & Targeted ads

The CMP is a tool for collecting and transmitting your users' choices regarding the collection and use of their personal data. It does not block tags automatically but provides commands for conditioning them.&#x20;

In some cases, targeted advertising scripts are automatically packaged by the "vendors" who themselves control the signals they need to perform their processing.&#x20;

When vendors do not condition their tags themselves, you can do so upstream using the CMP commands detailed in the [documentation](https://cmp.docs.sirdata.net/en/script-management/tag-conditioning).
